CARIDON FOUNDATION LIFE BEYOND HOUSING
Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement 2019/2020
Slavery and forced labour can take many forms, including human trafficking, forced and child labour. This practice includes among others sexual exploitation, sex trafficking, prostitution, sexual escort, pornography, domestic servitude (doing menial jobs, such as cleaning, washing, childcare, nannies, and menial household chores for which the affected get little or no remuneration. People who are affected by this practice are usually forced or coerced into it for profit motives by the perpetrators. The offence is punishable by up to life imprisonment under the 2015 Modern Slavery Act.
The Caridon Foundation (The Caridon Foundation – CF) will not tolerate forced labour or child labour in any aspect of business and are fully committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all business dealings and relationships. The Caridon Foundation holds itself and its supply chain accountable and will strive to adhere to the provisions of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. We are initiating this statement after taking our first Modern Slavery tenant into our service from Hestia. Additional referrals are expected in the coming months.

- Caridon Foundation, Modern Slavery and The Salvation Army Training
We currently work with a National organisation Hestia, based with head office in London and developing a relationship with The Salvation Army to deliver supported housing to victims who have been referred to Caridon Foundation by Hestia. We are working with The Salvation Army to provide much-needed training to the CF staff on Modern Slavery in November 2019. Our goal at CF is to support the central government in delivering support for those referred to the National Referral Mechanism (NRM). The NRM is a national framework that ensures that victims of modern slavery are identified and receive appropriate support. We are committed to using what we will learn from this training to enhance our skills, knowledge and abilities in managing our service users and ensuring that we embed this knowledge into our policy and procedures.
- Policy and research
CF wants to be one of the organisations in London, working with other key bodies such as Hestia who are working with victims of modern slavery. As a young organisation, CF has a great deal to learn from other established organisations such as Hestia and The Salvation Army who have both had substantial experience working and managing this client group. We will continue to research what more we need to do to enhance our knowledge of the criminal practice encapsulated under Modern Slavery.
- Brief of Areas/Policies that cover Slavery and Human Trafficking
The Caridon Foundation will do whatever it can to combat slavery and human trafficking. Our anti-slavery and human trafficking statement reflects the commitment to acting ethically, vigilantly and with integrity in all business relationships and implementing and enforcing systems and controls that seek to ensure slavery and human trafficking is not taking place in any of our homes or supply chains. The Caridon Foundation will not support or deal with any business knowingly involved in slavery or human trafficking in any part of its operations.
Any instances of non-compliance will be assessed on a case by case basis and remedial action tailored appropriately. We will only trade with organisations who fully comply with this policy.
The three main areas of risk concerning human trafficking and slavery within The Caridon Foundation are:
- Supply chain.
- Employment and recruitment.
- Letting and use of properties.
High-Risk Areas/Steps to Assess Risk Details of actions taken are included in the due diligence sections below. We will continually carry out a risk analysis which will identify processes, procedures or actions that are required to further reduce the possibility of human trafficking and slavery by those working with and for The Caridon Foundation.
- Further Training Staff
The Caridon Foundation ensures that training is delivered to all internal customer-facing staff focusing on safeguarding, slavery and human trafficking requirements and individual responsibilities.
- Proposed Actions 2019/2020
The Caridon Foundation continues to roll out this training during 2019/20 to include all colleagues.
- Due Diligence in Supply Chains
We continue to take steps to ensure there is no modern slavery or human trafficking within our supply chain.
- Our aim – actions we plan to take are as follows:
- All contracted spend utilises standard terms and conditions, which will include a clause that the incumbent contractor must comply with the Modern Slavery Act 2015;
- When The Caridon Foundations’ terms and conditions are not used, the Modern Slavery Act 2015 is a bespoke clause added to these individual contracts.
- For non-contracted spend of low value, purchase orders detail the standard terms and conditions of business which include a clause that the incumbent contractor must comply with the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
